When you live in the same place for an extended period of time, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut. Perhaps you moved to the Welsh capital all bright eyed and busy tailed but now you’re finding you visit the same old haunts week in, week out. Perhaps you’ve exhausted all the cool places and don’t know where to go for a fresh encounter.
It sounds like you need to go deep underground and discover Cardiff’s top secret experiences. But how does one find out about this hush-hush gold dust? Luckily, here at Thomas George we’re a pretty clued up bunch.
The White Rabbit
How does a 1920s themed speakeasy sound? Tucked away on Dumballs Road lies a mysterious pop-up bar called The White Rabbit. We can’t diclose the exact location, but you can tweet Don’t Tell Anyone Cardiff for more details.
The White Rabbit is open on Fridays and Saturdays for a limited period but remember that booking is essential and the bar can only be accessed by password. To keep the look and feel of the bar under wraps, photography is prohibited but the writer of this article was allowed to take a sneaky snap of the drinks.
Expect traditional cocktails, small bites to eat and a terrific atmosphere harking back to the days of prohibition.
We’ve all dreamed of having our favourite bands serenade us from the comfort of the sofa. It would be so great to be able to watch a band without craning your neck to see and dodging beer spilling gig goers.
Introducing Sofar Sounds: a global movement bringing living room gigs to a city near you. In 194 cities across the world, monthly free gigs are occuring in peoples homes and Cardiff is one of the locations.
The line-up and location are secret until the day of the event and invites are limited. By signing up as a member you’ll hear about the latest events as they happen and can apply to join on a first come, first served basis. You can even opt to host a gig yourself.
We’re not saying One Direction will be there, but a lot of the artists who have played Sofar have gone on to achieve fame and fortune. Most recently, Bastille and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s performed special gigs in London and NYC.
