Three Things to Look Out for in Cardiff in 2016

2015 is over, but fear not, Cardiff has got some good things lined up for the New Year. For a sneaky preview of what 2016 holds for the Welsh capital, take a look here.

1. A Rooftop Restaurant
A rooftop restaurant is pretty much the only type of eatery that’s missing in the capital of Wales. And, you’ve guessed it, there’s one opening in Cardiff next autumn.

For steak lovers, 2016 won’t come around fast enough. Queen Street will be home to a 100 bedroom four star boutique hotel, under the branding of Hotel Indigo, and at the very top of this development will be, wait for it, Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill.

The Michelin star celebrity chef already has 7 branches and the 8th is set to open in Cardiff as part of the £10m hotel development in 2016. Roll on next year.

2. A New Entertainment Venue
Cardiff’s Grade II-listed ex-council depot went on sale two years ago and the council has transformed it into an art centre, TramShed. And it’s not just any old arts centre. As well as an art gallery, the multi-purpose centre houses a 40-seat cinema, a 1000 capacity performance venue, plus a café-bar, and that’s not even the half of it.

TramShed is thought to have created up to 300 jobs and bring together locals and creative industries, what with the advanced facilities available.

Want to have a look for yourself? Then why not treat yourself to gig tickets and give yourself something to look forward to? The Cadillac Three, The Wonder Stuff, The Cat Empire and Billy Ocean are all set to perform at this large venue early in 2016. Be sure to buy tickets before they sell out.

3. Cardiff University World Half Marathon Championships
The biggest athletics event to be held in Wales, Cardiff University World Half Marathon Championships is taking place on Saturday 26h March 2016. The event is sponsored by the prestigious university along with running legend Paula Radcliffe and Wales rugby captain Sam Warburton, amongst other big names.

In fact, more than 200 of the world’s best athletes from 50 countries will go head to head for the World Half Marathon Championships title in the city’s capital. And you can join them! If you haven’t already entered for a chance to complete the 13.1 mile route around Cardiff with the best runners in the world, what are you waiting for? Register your place at this elite race today before the 25,000 spaces are filled.

That’s not all. There will be plenty going on in Cardiff in 2016, but we wouldn’t want to spoil it for you; you’ll have to go and explore the city for yourself!
